Psalm 11
In the LORD I put my trust;
How can you say to my soul,
“Flee as a bird to your mountain”?
For look! The wicked bend their bow,
They make ready their arrow on the string,
That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart.
If the foundations are destroyed,
What can the righteous do?The LORD is in His holy temple,
The LORD’s throne is in heaven;
His eyes behold,
His eyelids test the sons of men.
The LORD tests the righteous,
But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates.
Upon the wicked He will rain coals;
Fire and brimstone and a burning wind
Shall be the portion of their cup.For the LORD is righteous,
He loves righteousness;
His countenance beholds the upright.
Father of Mercies and God of Peace, we put our trust in You. Fiery darts come at Your people every day. Some we plainly see, some we only feel, some we may never notice, some we will never forget. Nevertheless, they come and will continue, so we need Your protection. You say that faith is a shield that can quench every flaming dart of the wicked one. So Lord, help our unbelief. Strengthen our faith, and cause us to grow in our trust in You.
You, who are in Your holy temple; You, who heaven and even the heaven of heavens could not contain — You see everything. Thank you. Thank you that Your love is not aloof and distant. Though You are in heaven, Your Son came down. The brightness of Your glory, the express image of Your person — He who upheld and still upholds all things by the word of His power — He came and He died. Having risen again, He has sent to us the Comforter, Your Holy Spirit. Thank You that You never leave us or forsake us.
Comfort us today.
Righteous One, Savior, True and Faithful Judge — as Your countenance shines on Your people, as we behold as in a mirror Your glory, even as we see it dimly now, may we ever be transformed into Your image by Your Spirit. This we know that You will do because You promise that You work all things together for good to those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.
